Recommendations for publishing scientific articles
1. Create your research profile
The research profile is a digital identity, usually by means of a code, to uniquely identify scientific articles and publications. Having a research profile has multiple advantages such as standardizing and unifying in a single way the possible ambiguities of the person's name, in addition to collecting under the same code all the scientific production and thus recovering it more easily and therefore, increasing visibility and impact of the metrics.
If you want more information, see Research profile
2. Publish in an identifiable and appropriate way
|To avoid ambiguities and corrections, in addition to having a research profile, we advise you to always use an appropriate and identifying name form in your publications, which allows you to quickly recognize youself. In the same way, we advise you to always publish under the same form of affiliation, which should follow the guidelines of the institution.|
3. Make a good choice of the scientific journal
Choose the scientific journal in which the research carried out will be published is one of the most necessary and important tasks that you must take into account. If you choose the right magazine, it will mean a high number of citacions and more visibility, greater impact and, therefore, a higher H index, greater impact on evaluation processes and accreditations, copyright control and greater dissemination in repositories..
If you want more information, see Where to publish?
4. Scientific publications with DOI
Scientific publications that have the DOI (Digital Object Identifier ) code are more recoverable and visible, since it is a system of identification and exchange of intellectual property in the digital environment and guarantees its direct access. Only publishers can request this code from the registration agencies, therefore we recommend that your articles be published in journals that assign a DOI code.
The DOI code is a persistent and unique identifier of digital objects (articles, books, book chapters, images, multimedia products, etc.). and a system that processes this identifier on the Internet to offer digital services. It consists of two elements divided by a slash: on the left of the bar there is a number (the prefix) that identifies the entity and that provides the International DOI Foundation, on the right of the bar ther is another code (the suffix), which provides the entity that registers and that can be any alphanumeric string. This suffix can be any standard identifier, such as the ISBN or any other proper identifier. The critery that determines the validity of a DOI is that it is unique.
5. Promote the visibility of your publications and collaborate with the Library
A good way to increase visibility is to actively promote and disseminate your publications. Keep your profiles updated, both in your researcher profiles and in the GREC-URL, dwhere you can consult the scientific production of the University. The Office of Research and Innovation is responsible for disseminating the data to the Portal de la Recerca de Catalunya (PRC).
In addition, IQS Library is responsible for disseminating your publications in the RECERCAT institutional repository. Thanks to this repository, publications are available and the contents are recoverable through metadata, visibility is increased, ther is a greater impact, and long-term preservation and access is ensured.
If you want more information, see RECERCAT
6. Publish in Open Access
Open Access publications are those that are disseminated openly so that anyone can consult them, with the only condition of respecting copyright, and being recognized through identification and citation.
In addition, it should be borne in mind that if an investigation is carried out with public funds, the scientific publication must be accessible for consultation, respecting its rights.
