Optimization of the production in a multi-product distillation plant through the development of its cleaning concept

Author

Ramos Casanova, Carlota

This work is included in the design of regular production in the new distillation plant in Barcelona, developed by the Covestro company at its facilities in the Zona Franca. Through the definition of the plant cleaning concept, the project is based on optimizing the time and cost of product changes to establish, thus, the optimal length of the campaigns for each product, in a compromise between the costs of product change and inventory maintenance costs.
The cleaning strategy developed ensures, on the one hand, adequate and effective cleaning; while, on the other hand, it minimizes the efforts dedicated to this cleaning. An optimal production sequence has been derived from the cleaning strategy, as well as the preparation of a six-year production plan based on the optimal length of the campaigns. This plan will be a starting point for scheduling the plant's production in the coming years.
