Abstract During the pandemic period of the illness caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus (COVID-19), pharmacies have experienced significant and unexpected changes in their dispensations. The main objective of this final degree project is to determine the variations in the dispensing of 12 main groups of medication at ATC03 and lower levels during the COVID-19 pandemic in Catalonia, by provinces, gender and age. To conduct this study; I obtained the dispensing data of 853 pharmacies directly from the pharmaceutical distribution cooperative Federació Farmacèutica and the use of the data study computer application BIsualfarma. The data analysis consisted of comparing the monthly dispensation before the pandemic (2019) and during the different phases of the pandemic (2020 and 2021), weighted by the total annual population of Catalonia. The representativeness of the cooperative’s data has been analyzed by calculating the percentage of coverage of the cooperative in Catalonia and contrasting the results with prescription data obtained from CatSalut. During the first month of strict confinement (March 2020), there has been an increase in the consumption of paracetamol and inhalers and a decrease just after the second month in the consumption of ibuprofen and antibiotics. There has also been an increase in the dispensing of antidepressants, anxiolytics, antipsychotics and antiepileptics and a decrease in inhalers, anti-inflammatory drugs, antibiotics, and opiates in 2021 compared to 2019. More studies are needed to see if these trends persist over time, accelerate or slow down and return to normal levels. |
