Abstract

An Operator Training Simulator (OTS) is a computerized training system based on the inte-gration of a dynamic simulation of an industrial plant into a human-machine interface. Nowa-days, is one of the most powerful tools available in chemical industry for operators training, either before the plant start-up or during its lifecycle.
This project consists of designing an OTS for a propylene glycol production plant. Therefore, a model of the reaction and purification unit of the plant has been simulated via Aspen HYSYS, a human-machine interface has been elaborated with Visual Studio and, finally, both have been integrated via Visual Basic for Applications (VBA). Next, possible dysfunctions have been analysed, stablishing the dysfunctions to simulate, as well as the evaluation algorithm for the user response.
