Consumer Perception Towards Sustainable Over-The-Counter (OTC) Products

Abstract

Sustainability is preserving a balance between three main pillars, environmental, social and economic, aiming to preserve resources for the future generations. Nowadays, following a sustainable development strategy has become very important for both pharmaceutical industries and consumers. This study aims to analyze the pharmaceutical industry involvement in sustainability and understand the consumer perception and behavior towards purchasing sustainable over the counter products before and during the Coronavirus pandemic. In this study, the data collected was through a survey answered by 106 participants mostly in Barcelona, Spain. The result showed a high interest in buying sustainable over-the-counter pharmaceutical product, especially for the gen Z and millennials, it also showed an important awareness mainly about environmental sustainability. However, the consumers motivation is not always followed by extra spending on sustainable products.
