Abstract

The ball burnishing process is a "superfinishing" procedure that has certain advantages since it involves an improvement in various properties of the material worked in the same operation. It is a process widely investigated in the field of metallic materials, whether based on iron or other, however, its use on polymeric materials has not received as much attention due to its lesser development in manufacturing.
In this project, a tool has been designed that arises as a process of optimization of an existing and implemented tool for metals, previously designed, manufactured and validated by this same research group. The subsequent validation of this model will be carried out on different polymeric materials. The evaluated parameters that will determine the quality of the process are the arithmetic mean roughness of the profile (Ra) and the total roughness of the profile (Rz).
These parameters will be contrasted with the data obtained from the publications presented in this project. In addition, the optimal operating parameters for the materials studied will be sought.
