Abstract

This master's thesis aims to study the feasibility of installing a photovoltaic solar system in a residence located in Central America, specifically in Panama City. For this study, pertinent investigations have been carried out in terms of benefits, costs, and elaboration of its design.
All theoretical contexts or foundations regarding solar energy and photovoltaic solar systems are exposed. It is decided to explore from the definition of the basic concepts of renewable solar energy to the composition of a residential photovoltaic system.
We proceed to use the necessary measures for the study of this system in the residence. It is calculated from the necessary generation based on the customer's consumption, to the cost of the system itself, its requirements in Panama City, and its financial return in the coming years.
The benefits are compared to the costs, for the elaboration of the conclusions regarding the installation of a photovoltaic system in Panamanian residences or in the world.
