Abstract

The increase in the consumption of psychotropic drugs has been detected since the beginning of 2019, many months before the arrival of Covid-19 and the start of the pandemic. With the arrival of this, consumption has continued to increase at the same rate. Except with the young population: after the pandemic, young people have consumed more psychotropic drugs, specifically, anxiolytics and antidepressants. A direct effect can be attributed with great certainty.
The pandemic, therefore, has not directly affected the consumption of psychotropic drugs in the adult population. However, a general increase in consumption can be seen which, consequently, reflects a progressive worsening of mental health. Therefore, the hypothesis that drug consumption has increased due to the arrival of the Covid-19 pandemic is partially confirmed, because only the young population has been affected.
