Abstract

The common used refrigerants have 23000 more global warming potential than carbon dioxide, that is why the Deep Eutectic Solvents (DES) are being studied, mixtures between Lewis or Brønsted acids and bases, used nowadays to capture the components which have more global warming potential of refrigerants by breaking the azeotropes they form, separate them and discard them in an efficient way, the objective of this paper is to obtain the densities and viscosities of different DES in a range of temperatures to evaluate their capability to retain refrigerants and use them as a green engineering resource. A densimeter and a viscosimeter are used to evaluate their properties, it is seemed in the results that the solution which works better for the objective set is the ChCl:Urea (1:2). To conclude, DES such as ChCl:Urea, ChCl:Glycerol, ChCl:Ethylene glycol (1:2) and ChCl: Oxalic acid (1:1) are good solvents to retain refrigerant gases due to its low density and viscosity, also are considered green engineering products.

Key words: Deep Eutectic Solvents, density, viscosity.
