Abstract The unicellular microalgae Chlamydomonas reinhardtii is emerging as a new photosynthetic and eukaryotic model organism for the production of a wide variety of compounds useful in many sectors, and is being developed as a host for industrial biotechnology. One of the lines of research carried out in the laboratory aims to produce glycolipids of interest through the expression of the Mycoplasma genitalium glycosyltransferase MG517 in the C.reinhardtii nuclear genome. However, the expression of this glycosyltransferases remains low and unstable, as is common in transgenes expressed in this microalgae. In the present study, in addition to investigating the different techniques to improve transgene expression in the C.reinhardtii nuclear genome, different ways of producing certain compounds in these organisms through metabolic engineering will be discussed. Likewise, a construct of the glycosyltransferases MG517 will be proposed, through insertions of the RBSC2i1 intron, which favors its expression. Finally, the biosynthetic pathways and the bioavailability of the nucleotide sugars UDP-glucose and UDP-galactose, substrates of the glycosyltransferases MG517, in C. reinhardtii will be studied. |
