Abstract Myalgic encephalomyelitis / chronic fatigue syndrome (ME / CFS) is a rare disease that affects about 0.5% of the world's population, but no specific molecular or cellular biomarker has yet been discovered to diagnose it. ME / CFS is characterized by intense fatigue and suffering when finishing physical and / or mental exercises. Human skeletal muscle (SKM) plays an essential role in ME / CFS and may be of great interest when seeking a cure for this disease. Variation in SKM function has been found to be related to disease pathogenesis, and interleukin 6 (IL-6) and monocyte chemoattractant protein 1 (MCP-1) are believed to They could also be associated with the inflammation that causes this pathology. Thus, on the one hand, in this project, these two cytokines have been quantified in human serum samples from patients with ME / CFS and it has been concluded that people suffering from this disease produce more IL 6 cytokines and MCP-1 than healthy people. On the other hand, the effect of these sera on human skeletal muscle cells (SkMC) has been studied and it has been possible to determine that these cells are altered with the addition of these. In short, this work has found two cytokines that seem to have an important role as biomarkers for the diagnosis of ME / CFS. |
