Abstract This project shows how a series of pieces, the core of which consists of a strut-based structure, are designed, and printed through FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling). To properly evaluate the physical properties of a periodic structure, only a small portion of the structure (the smallest unit or unit cell) needs to be considered to obtain the properties of the entire periodic structure. Periodic structures are easier to describe precisely due to the regular geometry of the underlying lattice unit cell [3]. Considering the success of periodic cellular structural modeling in the latest years, various periodic cells with different degrees of freedom, different geometries and, consequently, different mechanical properties at the macrostructural level, are thoroughly studied. |
