Improvement of the performance and design of the mechanical ventilator DAR 2.0

A mechanical ventilator is an automatic machine which totally or partially assumes the breathing work whenever a patient is not capable of themselves. During the 2020 pandemic, the GASN2 R&D team developed an autonomous breathing device (DAR 1.0), which was designed, tested, and validated in record time, thus obtaining the approval of the AEMPS (Agencia Española de Medicamentos y Productos Sanitarios) for use during the emergency. A subsequent improvement was carried out (DAR 2.0) by implementing new modes of operation and new components that allowed the extension of the functionality of the device.
This second prototype was the starting point of this project, where the main objective consisted of designing a new expiration circuit followed by the enhancement of its software and the analysis of its elements compatibility with the healthcare sector. Therefore, a series of actions were developed with the purpose of achieving the mentioned objectives.
However, because it is a complex and highly competitive medical device in today's market, DAR 2.0 is not a final prototype. As explained in this report, although this project has been a great step for GASN2, there are many subsequent actions that are to be made with the purpose of achieving a definitive design.
