Abstract

We are facing a reality that requires concrete action. We could describe the current situation as follows:
• Water is a scarce commodity.
• Evidence of accelerated climate change.
• The impact of our actions on the environment: The abusive use of fertilizers, insecticides, pesticides, etc. It can lead us to a situation of denitrification of the soil, therefore, to the inability to produce sufficiently nutritious food.
• Society is increasingly concerned about their health and is aware of the relationship between food and health.
• Abusive and uncontrolled fishing of some marine and fluvial species that can lead to the destruction of entire ecosystems... trawling, non-selective fishing, intrusion into trophic chains.

We believe that the solution involves a series of changes in our lifestyle, in our daily habits, in a commitment at the governmental level that favors the creation of new, more sustainable production routes and a renewable energy supply.
For all these reasons, we created Water Grasslands, a company that is in this line. We are a company that introduces the circular economy into its productive philosophy. The aquaponic system allows a circular use of the production of vegetables and freshwater fish. It optimizes all resources to the maximum: water, nutrients, energy, labor, space and time.
We are convinced that our products will be very well received by consumers, as we will offer them the assurance that they are putting food on their table that is free of heavy metals, toxins, aggressive practices on the environment, and is also richer in nutrients. Water Grasslands will sell its products from the facilities in Vila Rodona, we will also offer a home delivery service. Orders can be made through our website or telephone and we will personally go to deliver them to the customer. Direct sales will also be made to the retailer that is interested in our products.
Our client is one who wants to consume or offer their clients a sustainable product, with more nutrients and with guarantees that what we offer contributes to the better development of ecosystems. During the first years, with the production and sale raised, we propose to cover 11% of the Tench market and 1.4% of the lettuce, endive and endive market. During the first year, Water Grasslands will sell a total of 20 tons of lettuce, generating a total of €89,579.52 and a 12% margin on production costs.
In the second year, according to forecasts, a volume of lettuce sales of 31 tons and 160 kg of Tench is expected. All this generating a total of €136,878. In the third year, lettuce sales will stagnate at around 31 tons, but tench sales will increase to 1 ton and 100g, all generating a total of €151,934.
The business is profitable thanks to the contribution of an initial capital of €100,000 and a bank loan of €32,000. All this capital investment helps to be able to face the payment of fixed assets and salaries during the first period, as well as having a positive treasury result.
During the first year, losses are expected, but in the second and third years it is expected to generate benefits for the partners, according to calculations reflected in chapter 9.
