The ball burnishing process is a superfinishing procedure that has certain advantages since it entails an improvement in various properties of the material worked in the same operation. It is a process widely investigated in the field of metallic materials, whether iron-based or otherwise, however, its use on polymeric materials has not received as much attention due to its lesser development in manufacturing. In this project, a burnishing tool, created by the department's research group, has been validated for use in polymeric materials. The validation has been carried out on different polymeric materials. The evaluated parameters that determine the quality of the process are the arithmetic mean roughness of the profile (Ra) and the total roughness of the profile (Rz).
These parameters have been contrasted with the data obtained from the publications presented in previous projects of the same tool. In addition, the optimal operating parameters for the materials studied have been established.
