Abstract The objective of this work is to describe and comment on the main ethical dilemmas derived from the compassionate use of medicines. For this reason, it investigates the legislation in force in Spain, and the ethical position that some Spanish organizations have taken, in order to offer the most accurate image possible of the state of the matter. Summarizing the status of this issue, this paper makes a double diagnosis: on the need to improve the law, and on the need for greater intervention by hospital ethics committees in the compassionate use process. Both proposals could make the process safer and easier for the benefit of the patient. |
