Abstract

The invention of Cured in Place Pipe (CIPP) technology was a major breakthrough in the pipe rehabilitation field. However, it is a very young technique with a wide margin of improvement ahead. In some fields as in the rehabilitation of sewer pipes, CIPP is beginning to be a mainly used technic. Despite, in the field of rehabilitation of tap water pipes, problems are often and came from multiple causes. So, it is very difficult to determine what has failed in each rehabilitation. In potable drinking water pipes, the high working pressures exponentially magnify the slightest problem or distraction. In many cases, this means starting again the rehabilitation adding an extra cost, and making this technique no longer so economical compared to the traditional replacement of the damaged pipe.
This document presents control and assurance of the quality protocol that every CIPP project should pass in each step of the rehabilitation project. This includes the materials reception, execution of the installation process, and control of the installed hose. The protocol is complex, and it contains a high level of detail. It is also totally focused on the field of drinking water pipe rehabilitation as nowadays it is the field that currently has the most uncertainties.
Procedures and experimental tests proposed to be carried out in this document are supported by the current standards and regulations. The only exception is the most innovative procedures which are outside the scope of the current regulations. In this document, there is also an overview of the specific CIPP’s current regulations around the world emphasizing the weaknesses detected.
Finally, in the last chapter, a practical guide of the protocol is presented as an example in order to make it easier to the companies to get used to it as well as to demonstrate its viability.
