Abstract

This final degree project consists on the design and implementation of a temperature control program for a thermal system using a Siemens S7-1500 programmable logic controller (PLC). The control program implemented in the PLC is based on a proportional, integral, and derivative algorithm (PID).
To do this, a mathematical model is adjusted to the system. Then, PID controller parameters are calculated according to different methods. These are tested and simulated with the software MATLAB and Simulink before implementing the controller in the PLC.
After, the effect of the parameters on the response of the controlled system is studied allowing the controller to be optimized manually. Finally, automatic tuning of the parameters is performed with TIA Portal (proprietary software of the PLC), allowing the temperature control to be further optimized. In this way, a controlled system that follows the temperature setpoint is obtained.
