Abstract

In this final degree project, a report on the morning-after pill is presented, focusing the attention on its physiological, pharmacological, legal, sociological and ethical aspects. The objective of this project is to answer the following question: what should the pharmacist know, that by his or her profession, can dispense (and maybe he or her already does dispense this medicine), to do it (or not) with full responsibility?. The conclusion that we offer is that taking into consideration the patient’s beneficence, autonomy and justice principles, access to the treatment should be granted. Also, that the main challenge for the pharmacist’s work is to guarantee a welcoming and private climate and also listening to the patient’s inquiries without prejudices.
