Abstract

Α-galactosylceramide consists of a synthetically obtained glycolipid that can be used in fields related to medicine due to its strong immunostimulating and antitumor activity. Based on this, the general idea of the project is to evaluate the Pichia pastoris organism as a possible alternative to Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a biological platform on which to carry out different metabolic engineering strategies to increase the production of α-galactosylceramide. Therefore, it is intended to compare the metabolic routes for the synthesis of sphingolipids corresponding to each of the two organisms and to determine what modifications should be carried out to increase the production of α-galactosylceramide, trying to foresee what problems the modification of certain routes to the viability of both organisms. As it is a purely bibliographic work, the ideas presented will be supported by bibliographic sources of which an experimental work was carried out.
