Abstract Cancer immunotherapy is a powerful and promising type of cancer treatment that can be combined with traditional cancer therapies: chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and surgery. It is based on modifying the immune system to improve the anticancer response through various strategies to improve patient survival. New patterns of response and progression of immunotherapy have been reported that are not observed with conventional cytotoxic treatments. For this reason, stimulating immune reactions to tumors can be an attractive therapeutic strategy. This project describes some of the main strategies in cancer immunotherapy (targeted antibodies, adoptive cell transfer, oncolytic viruses, cancer vaccines and immunomodulators) and discusses the progress and mechanism of action of these therapies. |
