| Author Walter Pallarés, Patricia | Abstract In mechanical engineering, the Reverse Engineering (RE) is a process by which an existing object is recreated in digital form. The first step in a reverse engineering workflow is to accurately capture the dimensions of the part to recreate. A 3D scanner takes measurements of the part as it forms a point cloud. The scanner’s software will then create an STL file of this point cloud which can be easily imported into a computer- aided design (CAD) program. |
