Abstract Non-specific intravenous human immunoglobulins (IVIG) are antibody preparations that are increasingly used in clinical practice. However, they are not always administered for indications authorized by the Spanish Agency of Medicines and Health Products (AEMPS), but are also used for unapproved indications for which there is some degree of clinical evidence, although their efficacy may be questionable in some contexts. In addition, the price of IVIG has increased significantly accompanied by an increase in demand, leading to a general shortage of IVIG. Thus, on the one hand, in this project the indications for which IVIG are administered have been classified according to the degree of available evidence. On the other hand, an observational study of their use in the Hospital Universitari Vall d’Hebron has been carried out, calculating the frequencies, the reasons for discontinuation and the costs. In short, it has made it possible to raise the need for further studies to increase the knowledge of the efficacy and safety of these drugs in order to include more indications in the summary of product characteristics (SmPC) of IVIG, and has opened the door to future research on this subject. |
