This Master's Thesis deals with the construction project of the Marpol waste treatment facilities generated in the operational activities of the ships that dock in the area of influence of the port of Tarragona. The work has been carried out in collaboration with a team of engineers from the engineering consulting company ACKINGPRO for an external client. The design of the plant has focused on the improvement of previous plants designed by the same engineering, incorporating the specifications required by Directive 2008/98 / EC of the European Parliament and of the Council, of November 19, 2008, by which it introduces state orders to define criteria for new procedures by which it can be established that a certain waste stream can no longer be considered waste. Among the hydrocarbon residues that are generated on the ships and that are collected in the ports by authorized companies are the Marpol annex I type C hydrocarbon residues. The objective of the process in the plant is to obtain fuel recovered by its use as fuel in ships through Marpol Annex I type C waste from the bilges of ships that dock at port. The process and equipment have been designed, material and energy balances have been calculated, and the lines of all the stages have been characterized. The results have been presented in a coherent way in the project of the designed plant in compliance with the pertinent state regulations.
