Abstract
This project focuses on the meaning of energy efficiency and the importance of this concept in existing buildings. Specifically, this concept will be studied in an IQS building: “Planta Piloto”. The purpose of the work is to propose different solutions to reduce energy consumption only by changing the building's cladding.
It has first been necessary to understand exactly what it means to improve the energy efficiency of a building. For this, real examples of rehabilitations have been seen, changing only the envelope and the carpentry. Very diverse examples have been found, from energy rehabilitation of houses to the reform of an old castle. Technologies involved in the next generation of "nZEB" buildings, nearly zero energy buildings, have also been studied.
Next, the current state of “Planta Piloto” has been studied, from the general data to its constructive description. Once the original conditions are known and thanks to all the information collected, two proposals will be made, intervening only in the envelope. Both the two proposals and the original building have been captured in different models in the REVIT program and have been energy rated using the Ce3x program.
The results obtained after both modifications show a clear energy improvement, going from an energy rating of type D to type B, but maximum efficiency is not achieved.
With which, after addressing all the possibilities, it is concluded that in order to reduce the energy consumption of the pilot plant, it is not enough just to modify its enclosure, but it is also necessary: either to reduce the number of windows in the building (option not chosen since would change the aesthetics and the interior lighting of the building) or the less invasive and definitive response, which is to change your air conditioning installation.
