Abstract

The main objective of the ITER project is to demonstrate the viability of nuclear fusion as an energy source. One of the critical components of this reactor is the regenerative tritium blanket (Tritium Breeding Blanket). The objective of this type of module is the in situ generation of tritium by neutron impact in Lithium. In the module, the lithium source can be in solid or liquid state. One of the liquid candidates is the eutectic alloy Pb-15.7Li. The commercial availability of this alloy is very low due to its difficult production. In this environment, it is proposed to obtain the eutectic Pb-15.7Li by means of a reactor with magnetohydrodynamic stirring (MHD).
In the present work, an assembly of an MHD reactor has been modified to the requirements for the synthesis of the eutectic Pb-15.7Li and the control parameters of the MHD stirring system have been optimized. The characterization analysis required to establish the quality of the synthesized product have also been established.
