Abstract

In this final degree project, the entire process of an aerodynamic calculation is carried out, with the methodology used in the automotive industry, of a 2D part with computer design tools, calculation and analysis of results software.
The design is a 2D cylinder, with a 10 mm diameter, perform the meshing of the surface with the ANSA pre-processing software, with initial conditions and variables and run the calculations using ANSYS calculation software to finally have the aerodynamic coefficient during a given time and with a known Reynolds number. In this case, the project is performed in 2D due to the complexity of the case in 3D. Final results are shown with the META post-processing program, allowing the engineer to use 3 software generally used by the industry.
The ANSA software is currently used in the automotive industry mainly. It is a tool that allows meshing a piece previously designed in SolidWorks or another similar tool, designing in this case a cylinder and a wind tunnel in order to pass to a calculation software called ANSYS, where the calculations will be executed, and finally, once obtained the results, we will create the graphs and visualize this results in Meta, the post processor software.
In order to verify that the results obtained are correct, this project is based on a identical cylinder designed in the Solidworks Flow Simulation tutorial called “Cylinder Drag Coefficient” and thanks to that, we will be able to validate the calculated results.
