Abstract

This Final Degree Project shows all the improvements applied within the production process of Venair Biotech, dedicated to the manufacture of silicone tubes, with the aim of increasing the company's profits. The project focuses on the improvement of the activities that take place inside a clean room.
To achieve this, the project is divided into two parts. On the one hand, the reduction of the amount of non-conforming tube, making use of DMAIC method. On the other hand, the reduction in time and the increase in productivity due to changes in distribution and elimination of those activities that are not strictly necessary.
In the first case, all phases of the project are explained, with which the amount of non-conforming material has been reduced from 12% to a final 6%. In the second, it has been based on a detailed observation of the process, with data collections included, which are compared with the data obtained after the changes applied, obtaining a productivity improve-ment of 15%.
In addition, the project includes an administrative nature third section, in which pro-duction planning is facilitated by creating a spreadsheet, with which the user can obtain, through a few metrics, information on workload for a given day.
The user must enter the reference of the desired tube, the number of rolls and the expected revision level. The amount of information is limited to three positions for the hori-zontal extruder and two for the vertical one, since in there are not more diameter changes made per day.
As a result, the person in charge of planning can observe the workload of each of the phases of the process, ranging from the capacity of the mixer to the revision of the tubes. Additionally, the spreadsheet will return warning messages with indicators so that the person can act and solve the inconveniences that arise with the expected planning.
