Abstract

In the present work, a procedure has been optimized to determine some families of organic compounds (HAP, PCB, PFAC, phthalates and drugs) in aqueous solutions. The analytes diluted in water are preconcentrated in solid phase extraction cartridges and analysed by gas chromatography coupled to a mass spectrometer (GC-MS), gas chromatography coupled to an electron capture detector (GC-ECD) and ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled to a mass spectrometer (UHPLC-MS/MS).
The experimental procedure to quantify the organic compounds consist in preconcentrate the analytes by passing the aqueous solution through the Oasis HLB cartridges and extracting them using different organic solvent successively. The volume of solvent used to elute the analytes, the order of elution of the solvents and the affinity of each family for the solvents have been studied.
This procedure has been applied to a spiked sample of miliQ water and finally to a spiked sample of artificial seawater to verify the matrix effect and study the behaviour of the analytes in a similar matrix to the real case of seawater samples collected during the Barcelona Ocean World Race (OWR) (2014-2015).
